Minneapolis Cooking Classes!

Welcome!
I'm so glad you're here! And I super hope you are in or near Minneapolis and intend to take a cooking class with me. Because, at least from my vantage point, they're a really good time.

There are three ways you can experience a Cake and Edith cooking class, described below. In all my classes, I make pretty great food using best-quality ingredients, teach you a few things, and might even crack a joke or twelve.

In addition to the three options listed below, I am also available to develop a smaller class or provide individual/small-group coaching and instruction specifically tailored to those eating or feeding their loved ones a restricted diet. As a parent of a child with food allergies, I have experience modifying recipes to be gluten-free, egg-free, nut-free, and dairy-free (the list actually goes on, but I won't... for now). I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to share what I know with others who are facing the challenges we had to overcome when our son was young (and allergic to everything normal). Contact me directly if you are interested in this option.

Class menus and pricing are available on my Cooking Class Descriptions page. I hope to see you soon!

1. Open Group Classes
Come (hungry!) on your own or with friends to an open group class, where you'll enjoy a super fun evening of learning (and eating!) in my home in uptown Minneapolis. Groups are comprised of no more than eight people, so we are all best friends at the end.

In all my classes, I share several useful tips and techniques throughout our time together, and you eat a generous sample of three or four dishes. You are also welcome to enjoy a glass of wine (or a from-scratch cocktail, in certain classes). We will have plenty of time to savor and discuss our food, address any cooking questions you may have, and build community by talking about our own joys and challenges in the kitchen. We might even get a little rowdy.

In my Culinary Basics and In Season classes, which include Quick Weeknight Meals, One Pot Wonders, Seasonal Salads, and Seasonal Soups, I teach you how to prepare 3-4 dishes in 2.5 hours. You eat appetizer-sized portions of each dish as they are completed. $60 per person; $50 per person for purchase of 4 or more spots.

My Everybody Loves a Party! classes are basically dinner parties where you get to learn. (Note: I am great at parties.) I will teach you how to prepare 3-4 dishes in about 3 hours. You will enjoy a starter at the beginning of class and a family-style meal towards the end. $70 per person; $65 per person for purchase of 4 or more spots.

2. Private Group Classes
Cooking classes make for a great party! They offer something new and different than just going out to eat does. Food is an instant conversation-starter, and you'll learn as much about your friends or colleagues as you will about cooking. Classes are great for family gatherings and team-building events, bachelorette parties and showers, and even just a couples' or girls' night out. I hope you'll consider a Cake and Edith cooking class for your next special occasion. They are so fun!

Join or host a group of up to eight people for a fun night of learning and eating in my home in uptown Minneapolis. For private group classes, pick any menu listed on my website, or ask me to create a custom menu. I will teach you how to prepare 3-4 dishes in about 2.5-3 hours and will share several useful tips and techniques throughout our time together. You will eat a generous sample of every dish made in class and you will be offered a glass of wine as well. We will have plenty of time to savor and discuss our food, address any cooking questions you may have, and build community by talking about our own joys and challenges in the kitchen. Come hungry!

I'm available to teach private group classes at various times, on various dates. Pricing starts at $400 for up to eight people. More details on pricing are on my Cooking Class Descriptions page. Email me at cakeandedith at gmail dot come to schedule your event.

3. Large Open Classes
I teach weekly at Local D'Lish, a gourmet grocery store in the North Loop neighborhood with an emphasis on locally sourced foods. These open group classes accommodate up to 15 students and offer more hands-on opportunities than the classes offered in my own kitchen. Classes cost $80 per person; there are often Living Social, Groupon, or other crowd-cut-type promotions available for seats in these classes if you do a Google search. (You're welcome. I love you.) Please sign up online or contact the store directly to reserve a seat: (612) 886-3047. Private events for larger groups are also available; contact Ann Yin at Local D'Lish for details and pricing.

Cake and Edith's fine print:
There is alcohol after all... Currently, unless otherwise specified, my classes are intended for grown-ups. If you are interested in a child-friendly class, I welcome children aged 8 and older to my large group classes at Local D'Lish. I also intend to offer a few more classes for children in the summer. They will be shorter, smaller, cheaper, and likely doughnut-focused. In the mean time, the Calhoun Whole Foods offers child-specific classes as well (not taught by me).

Money matters... Classes are a go if five or more people have confirmed their attendance. Your spot for a particular class is confirmed when you pay your fee in full. I accept checks and major credit cards; payment is due one week prior to class. If something comes up that prevents you from attending, you may find someone to take your spot. If you or I can find a paying guest to attend in your absence, I am happy to reschedule you into a future class. I am a small operation. I trust you understand that I can’t offer a refund if you are unable to attend and I can’t fill your place.

Live in Minnesota at your own risk... Open group classes will not be canceled, and refunds will not be provided, on account of weather. If it is especially treacherous out, I will reschedule a class if at least 50% of the guests signed up are able to come on another agreed-upon date.

See you soon! xoxo E-NC
